Hannah and Friends holds first mass at Eck Rec

On Sunday, December 20, 2009, a Mass was celebrated at 2:00 p.m. in the Eck
Recreation Center.
Our celebrant, Fr. Paul Doyle, invited all of us to make way for the coming of our
Lord as we celebrate Christmas in the week ahead. Families and friends worshiped together at this joyful liturgy. All denominations were welcomed to attend this celebration.
Charlie Weis Jr., Katie Schmitt, and Laura McDowell did the readings for the
Liturgy. A special altar cloth featuring handprints and signatures of our many Hannah and Friends participants adorned the table from which Fr. Doyle said Mass.
Fr. Doyle announced that the Mass was being offered for the intention of Chris
Bankowski, a South Bend native, who has spent the past three months in the ICU at
Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis. Chris wrote the first article for
the South Bend Tribune as Hannah and Friends Neighborhood was being developed.
For those in attendance, it was, indeed, a reminder that the season of Advent is
nearly over and an invitation to open our minds and hearts to the miracle of Christmas ahead. As we embrace the miracle of Christmas, let us, too, embrace the many miracles we witness at Hannah and Friends. May God shower all of our families and friends with different abilities with His greatest blessings in the most joyous season!
